Power Antenna

The vehicle is equipped with an electrically operated telescoping power antenna mounted at the right rear quarter panel. The antenna extends whenever the audio system is powered up. The antenna assembly is serviced by replacement. The lower mast sections are also separately replaceable without removing the antenna assembly. The antenna coax runs in front of the rear compartment lid hinge, to the antenna.

With the ignition switch in accessory or run, voltage is applied to the radio receiver. When the radio is turned on, voltage is applied through the receiver to the coil of the antenna relay. When the coil energizes, the relay contacts are pulled down, and battery voltage is applied through the relay to the antenna motor. The motor operates in the UP direction until the antenna mast is fully up and the up-switch breaks the path to ground.

The antenna relay contacts are spring loaded. The contacts move up when the radio is turned off and the coil is no longer energized. With the antenna mast up, voltage is applied through the antenna motor down switch to the motor. The lower antenna relay contact provides a path to ground. The antenna motor operates in the down direction until the down switch breaks the path to ground.
