Interlock Solenoid Assembly - Column Shift

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system.
2. Negative (-) battery cable.
3. Connector, axial position assurance (100) and vehicle wire harness connector from interlock solenoid assembly (75).

4. Solenoid cable assembly from solenoid (75).
A. Cable mounting clip from solenoid bracket (77).
B. Ball joint socket from solenoid (75).
C. Ball joint spring (79) from solenoid (75).
5. Hex Washer HD Screw (74).
^ Solenoid assembly (75).

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTICE: When fasteners are removed, always reinstall them at the same location from which they were removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct part number fastener for that application. If the correct part number fastener is not available, a fastener of equal size and strength (or stronger) may be used. Fasteners that are not reused, and those requiring thread locking compound will be called out. The correct torque value must be used when installing fasteners that require it. If the above conditions are not followed, parts or system damage could result.

NOTICE: Ensure all fasteners are securely seated before applying required torque. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunctioning of steering column.

1. Solenoid (75) to bracket (77).
2. Hex Washer HD Screw (74).
^ Tighten screw (74) to 4.0 (35 lb in).
3. Vehicle wire harness connector to solenoid assembly (75).
^ Connector, axial position assurance (100).
^ Adjust interlock solenoid assembly (75).
A. Lock cylinder to "RUN" position.
B. Shift column out of "PARK" position.
C. Unlock solenoid cable.
^ Disengage locking button to allow cable movement.
D. Install ball joint spring (79) and ball joint socket to solenoid (78) and cable assembly to solenoid bracket (77) with locking button disengaged.
E. Pull cable away from solenoid (75) until tight.
^ Let cable move back (1.0 to 2.0 mm).
^ Engage locking button.

IMPORTANT: During Inspection and Adjustment of interlock & solenoid assembly, solenoid will become hot.

^ Inspect:
- Function check interlock solenoid assembly (75) for proper operation.
- Solenoid (75) must lock gearshift lever bowl assembly (71) whenever steering column is in "PARK" and when trying to shift from "PARK" without pressing brake pedal (solenoid is energized).
- Solenoid (75) must release gearshift lever bowl assembly (71) when pressure is applied to brake pedal. (Solenoid is de-energized).
- Readjust if needed.
