Rear Suspension Support
GENERAL INFORMATION
The suspension support is a separate sub-frame which supports all other rear suspension components. The suspension support is attached to the body at four points and can be removed from the vehicle WITHOUT removing or disconnecting the following parts: spring, shock absorbers, control arms, knuckle, hub and bearing assembly, or rotors.
Important: Since the right rear brake crossover pipe is mounted to the suspension support, it is important that all necessary precautions described in the following procedure are taken to ensure that the pipe is not damaged during suspension support removal or installation.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Remove both wheel and tire assemblies.
3. Suspend left caliper. Refer to BRAKES.
4. Remove other rear suspension components as required. Refer to appropriate removal procedures.
5. Intermediate parking brake cable from equalizer and move intermediate cable clear of suspension support.
6. Rear brake crossover pipe and left rear brake hose from bracket.
7. Rear chassis wiring harness from main body wiring harness.
8. Support rear suspension support with jackstands.
9. Remove suspension support forward arm bolts, upper mounting bolts, and lower insulators.
10. Lower jackstands.
Important: While lowering support, carefully watch the position of brake calipers, hoses, and pipes to prevent damage during the removal procedure.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Position suspension support under vehicle on jackstands so that it is aligned with vehicle body directly below the installed position.
2. Install upper suspension support insulators on suspension support.
3. SLOWLY raise suspension support into vehicle. Align suspension support with vehicle body as it is raised.
Important: While raising suspension support, carefully watch the position of brake calipers, hoses and pipes. Reposition calipers, pipes and hoses as required to prevent interference or damage to brake components.
4. Install suspension support forward arm bolts, nuts, and washers, upper mounting bolts and insulators.
Important:
^ Both forward arm bolts must be installed in the proper direction, with nuts installed on RIGHT side of arm.
^ The cup-shaped washer is used on the left forward arm bolt installation only.
^ Tighten:
- Right side suspension support forward arm nut to 63 Nm (46 lb ft).
- Left side suspension support forward arm bolt to 102 Nm (75 lb ft).
- Upper mounting bolts to 102 Nm (75 lb ft).
5. Rear chassis wiring harness to main body wiring harness.
6. Install left rear brake hose and crossover pipe to bracket.
7. Bleed brakes.
8. Connect intermediate parking brake cable to equalizer.
9. Install any other rear suspension components previously removed. Refer to appropriate installation procedures.
10. Left caliper and new caliper mounting bracket bolts. Refer to BRAKES.
^ Tighten:
- Caliper mounting bracket bolts to 113 Nm (83 lb ft).
- Parking brake cable bracket bolt to 43 Nm (32 lb ft).
11. Install wheel and tire assemblies.
^ Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 Nm (100 lb ft).
12. Lower vehicle.
