Knock Sensor Module: Description and Operation
System DescriptionThe Knock Sensor (KS) system is used in order to detect an engine detonation. The ECM will retard the spark timing based on the signals from the KS module.
System Self Testing
The Engine Control Module (ECM) employs an internal Integrated Circuit (IC) in order to continuously monitor the knock control evaluation circuit. The Knock Sensor (KS) module IC contains the circuitry that allows the ECM to utilize the KS signals and diagnose the KS sensors and circuitry. The KS Module is not a replaceable component. If the ECM detects a fault in the ability of the IC to sample these signals, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set.
