Before using Symptoms, perform the powertrain on-board Diagnostic System Check. Testing and Inspection

After performing the Diagnostic System Check, verify all of the following conditions:

^ The ECM and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) are operating correctly.

^ There are no DTCs stored.

^ The scan tool data is within the normal operating range. Refer to Engine Scan Tool Data List.

^ Verify the customer complaint. Then, locate that complaint under Symptoms and perform the indicated procedure.
