Spark Plug Replacement (Right Bank)
REMOVAL PROCEDURETOOLS REQUIRED
J 42068 Spark Plug Centering Sleeve
CAUTION: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
NOTE: Pull on the spark plug boot, the heat shield or use an approved spark plug boot removal tool, twisting a half-turn to release the seal while removing. Do not pull on the spark plug wire or it may be damaged.
1. Remove the throttle cable bracket bolts from intake plenum.
2. Remove the spark plug boots from spark plugs.
3. Use the spark plug boot remover tool (1) attached to spark plug boot.
4. Position the throttle cable bracket out of the way.
5. Clean the spark plug recess with compressed air.
Spark Plug Replacement (Left Side Bank): Removal Procedure:
6. Attach J 42068 to 3/8 inch drive extension.
7. Remove the spark plugs from cylinder head.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Be sure that the spark plug threads smoothly into the cylinder head and the spark plug is fully seated. Use a thread chaser, if necessary, to clean threads in the cylinder head. Cross-threading or failing to fully seat the spark plug can cause overheating of the plug, exhaust blow-by, or thread damage.
1. Install the spark plugs to cylinder head.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
Tighten
Tighten the spark plugs to 25 N.m (19 lb ft).
2. Install the spark plug boots to spark plugs.
3. Install the spark plug boot remover tool (1) to spark plug boot.
4. Reposition the throttle cable bracket.
5. Install the throttle cable bracket bolts to intake plenum.
Tighten
Tighten the throttle cable bracket bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
