System Components

BODY CONTROL MODULE (PZM)
The Body Control Module (PZM) controls all alarm functions. When the PZM has detected an unauthorized entry. it applies ground to the horn. park lamp and headlamp relays once per second for approximately three minutes, or until a valid input to disarm the system is received by the PZM. For additional information and diagnosis, refer to Computer System Diagnosis.

DOOR AJAR SWITCHES
The Universal Theft Deterrent (UTD) system uses door ajar switches in the door lock assembly as one method to activate the alarm. The PZM monitors the door ajar switches input, if the PZM detects any door open and the UTD system is in the armed mode, the alarm mode is activated.

Conditions which may activate the system intermittently.
^ A loose or corroded door ajar switch connector. Check the door ajar switch connectors for proper connection and repair or replace as necessary.

REAR COMPARTMENT LID LOCK CYLINDER TAMPER SWITCH
The rear compartment lid is equipped with a lock cylinder tamper switch which is activated by movement of the lock cylinder. Rotation and/or a in and out movement of the lock cylinder caused by a forced entry activates the lock cylinder tamper switch.

Condition which may activate the system intermittently.
^ A loose or corroded rear compartment lid lock cylinder tamper switch connector. Check the switch connector for proper connection and repair or replace as necessary.
^ The retainer is not installed firmly to the cylinder. Reinstall the retainer or replace it with a new one.

DOOR LOCK CYLINDER SWITCH
The front door lock cylinders are equipped with switches to disarm the theft deterrent system. When the lock cylinder is turned to unlock the door, the switch grounds the disarm input to the PZM. the switch is serviceable separate from the lock cylinder.

REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) SYSTEM
The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) system can also arm and disarm the UTD system. When the RFA module receives a door lock or unlock signal from the key fob. RFA module sends a message to the PZM to perform the appropriate door lock/unlock command, via the class 2 serial data line. The PZM detects the message. then locks the doors and enters the armed mode or unlocks the doors and enters the standby mode.
