Circuit Description

The theft deterrent system on this vehicle is comprised of the following 2 separate systems:
1. The Personal Automotive Security System (PASS-Key(R) II)
2. The Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) system These systems are described and diagnosed separately.

The Pass-Key(R) II is designed in order to help prevent vehicle theft by disabling the engine. This is true unless a key with a specific electrical resistance is used in the ignition switch.

The system contains the following components:
^ The ignition key
^ The steering column lock cylinder
^ The starter enable relay
^ The instrument cluster (IPC)
^ The powertrain control module (PCM)

The CTD system is designed in order to provide a warning in the event of forced entry through the doors and the trunk. When a forced entry is attempted, the alarm warning system is activated. This condition causes the horn to sound intermittently. The exterior lights also flash in unison for approximately 3 minutes. The CTD system does not affect engine starting.

The system contains the following components:
^ The door ajar switches
^ The trunk lock cylinder
^ The IPC
^ The body control module (PZM)
