Installation Procedure
1. Install the rear timing belt cover.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the rear timing belt cover bolts.
^ Tighten the rear timing belt cover bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
3. Coat the threaded pin with thread locking compound, GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent.
4. Install the rear timing belt cover threaded pin.
^ Tighten the rear timing belt cover threaded pin to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

6. Clean the cylinder block sealing surfaces.
7. Coat the seal ring of the water pump with silicone grease, GM P/N 12345579 or equivalent.

8. Install the water pump (1).
9. Install the water pump bolts.
^ Tighten the water pump bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the timing belt idler pulley for camshafts 3 and 4 (2).
11. Install the timing belt idler pulley bolt.
^ Tighten the timing belt idler pulley bolt until snug.
After the final timing belt adjustment are made the bolt will be tightened to specifications.
12. Install the timing belt tensioner bracket.
13. Install the timing belt tensioner bracket bolts.
^ Tighten the timing belt tensioner bracket bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).

Important: Install the numbered camshaft gear slots on the correct camshaft alignment pins, so that the reference marks (1, 2, 3 and 4) are aligned with the notches on the rear timing belt cover.

14. Install the camshaft gears.

Important: Use a new camshaft gear bolt. The required tightening method will stretch the bolt, therefore the bolt is not reusable.

15. Install the camshaft gear bolt.

^ Tighten
^ Use the relevant J 42069-1 and/or the J 42069-2 Camshaft Gear Locking Tools to hold the camshaft gear and the camshaft in place while tightening the camshaft gear bolt.
^ Use the J 36660-A to tighten the camshaft gear bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) + 60 degrees + 15 degrees.
16. Turn the crankshaft clockwise back to TDC.
17. Install the timing belt.
18. Adjust the timing belt if applicable.
19. Install the front timing belt cover.
