Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging (ACR4) System

1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the Battery.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove the front air deflector.
5. Remove the right front tire.




6. Remove the compressor splash shield (2) and the retainers (1).
7. Remove the right wheelhouse extension.
8. Disconnect the brake line retaining clip from frame.
9. Disconnect the suction hose fitting from the compressor.




10. Disconnect the discharge hose fitting from the compressor.




11. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.




12. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
13. Remove the A/C Compressor mounting stud.
14. Rotate the compressor, so that the compressor may exit through the wheelhouse extension opening.
15. Remove the compressor.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Electronic Halogen Leak Tester

1. Install the compressor through the wheelhouse extension.
2. Install mounting stud.
3. Install the remaining mounting fasteners.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the compressor mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




5. Connect the compressor electrical connector.




6. Connect the discharge hose fitting to compressor.

Tighten
Tighten the discharge hose fitting to the compressor to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




7. Connect the suction hose fitting to the compressor

Tighten
Tighten the suction hose fitting to the compressor to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

8. Connect the brake line retaining clip to the frame.




9. Install the compressor splash shield (2) and the retainers (1).
10. Install right front tire.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
13. Leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing Testing and Inspection
14. Install the wheelhouse extension.
15. Install the front air deflector.
