Tilt Spring - Assemble

- J 39246 Tilt Lever Spring Compressor





1. Lubricate the spring guide (3) and the wheel tilt spring (1) with synthetic grease.
2. Install the spring guide (3), the wheel tilt spring (1), and the spring retainer (2) into the steering column housing.





3. Align the securing tabs (1) on the spring retainer (3) with the slots (2) in the tilt spring hole.





4. Seat the counterbore of tool J 39246 (1) over the end of race and upper shaft assembly.
5. Thread and seat the standard hexagon nut (3) on the race and upper shaft assembly (2) to secure the tool.





6. Align the square extension on the end of the tool bolt (2) with the square hole in the spring retainer (1).





7. Rotate the tool bolt (1) counter clockwise with a wrench until the spring and spring retainer are pushed into the steering column housing (2).





8. Rotate the hexagon section (1) on the end of the tool bolt (2) counter clockwise approximately a quarter turn to lock the retainer into place.
9. Remove J 39246 from the steering column housing.
10. Install the pivot and pulse switch assembly. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
