Tilt Spring - Disassemble

DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE

- Tool Required
- J 39246 Tilt Lever Spring Compressor

1. Remove the pivot and pulse switch assembly.





2. Seat the counterbore of tool J 39246 (1) over end of the race and upper shaft assembly.
3. Thread and seat the standard hexagon nut (3) onto the race and upper shaft assembly (2) to secure the tool.





4. Align the square extension on the end of the tool bolt (2) with the square hole in the spring retainer (1).





5. Rotate the tool bolt (1) clockwise with a wrench until the spring and spring retainer are pushed into the steering column housing (2).





6. Rotate the hexagon section (1) on the end of the tool bolt clockwise approximately a quarter turn.
7. Unscrew the tool bolt (2) until the wheel tilt spring and spring retainer are loose and free of the tool.





8. Remove the spring retainer (2).
9. Remove the wheel tilt spring (1).
10. Remove the spring guide (3).
