Removal Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J 42069 Timing Belt Alignment Kit

1. Remove the intake air resonator Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement in Powertrain Management.
2. Remove the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement
3. Remove the timing belt cover. Refer to Timing Belt Cover Replacement.
4. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement.
5. As a precaution, rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise to the 60 degrees BTDC position to prevent valve/piston contact.
6. Install the J 42069-1 and the J 42069-2 between the camshaft drive sprockets. This will hold the drive sprockets in place while removing the bolt.
7. Remove the camshaft drive sprocket bolt.
8. Remove the J 42069-1 and the J 42069-2.
9. Remove the camshaft drive sprocket.

Installation Procedure

^ Tool Required
- J 36660-A Torque/Angle Meter

Important: The camshaft drive sprockets have numbered slots that must be aligned with the pins on the camshafts.

When the numbered camshaft drive sprocket slot is properly installed on the camshaft pin, the reference mark (1, 2, 3 or 4) on the drive sprocket, will align with the notch on the rear timing belt cover.

1. Install the camshaft drive sprocket.
Ensure the camshaft pin is installed in the correct numbered slot on the drive sprocket.

Important: Use a new camshaft drive sprocket bolt, the old bolt is not reusable.

2. Install the camshaft drive sprocket bolt.
^ Use the relevant J 42069-1 and/or the J 42069-2 to hold the camshaft drive sprocket and the camshaft in place while tightening the camshaft drive sprocket bolt.
^ Use the J 36660-A to tighten the camshaft drive sprocket bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) + 60 degrees + 15 degrees.
3. Turn the crankshaft clockwise back to TDC.
4. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement.
5. Install the timing belt cover. Refer to Timing Belt Cover Replacement
6. Install the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement.
7. Install the intake air resonator Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement in Powertrain Management.
