4L30-E Automatic Transmission
Removal Procedure1. Place the shift control lever in Neutral.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
4. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
5. Remove the transmission crossmember to body bolts.
6. Lower the transmission enough, to provide access to the shift position switch.
7. Remove the shift position switch shield
8. Remove the shift position switch wire harness connector (1) from the bracket (2).
9. Remove the transmission range selector shah nut.
10. Remove the transmission range selector lever.
11. Remove the shift position switch bolts (1).
12. Remove the shift position switch (2).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the shift position switch (2).
2. Install the shift position switch bolts (1 ) loosely.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Adjust the shift position switch:
3.1. Position the selector to N.
3.2. Connect a multimeter to terminal E and H on the shift position switch electrical connector.
3.3. Rotate the shift position switch slightly in both directions to determine the range of electrical contact (approximately 5 degrees).
3.4. Position the shift position switch in the middle of the contact range.
- Tighten the shift position switch bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
4. Remove the multimeter.
5. Install the transmission range selector lever.
6. install the transmission range selector shaft nut.
7. Install the shift position switch wire harness connector (1) to the bracket (2). Use a plastic tie strap if the connector clip is broken.
8. Install the shift position switch shield.
9. Raise the transmission into position.
10. Install the transmission crossmember to body bolts.
- Tighten the transmission crossmember to body bolts to 45 Nm (83 ft. lbs.).
11. Remove the transmission jack.
12. Install the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
- Tighten the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter bolts and nuts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
13. Lower the vehicle.
Switch Adjustment
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Position the selector to N.
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the shift position switch shield.
5. Remove the nut form the range selector lever.
6. Disconnect the shift position switch electrical connector.
7. Connect a multimeter to terminal E and H on the shift position switch electrical connector.
8. Loosen both shift position switch bolts.
9. Rotate the shift position switch slightly in both directions to determine the range of electrical contact (approximately 5 degrees).
10. Position the shift position switch in the middle of the contact range.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
11. Tighten the shift position switch bolts.
- Tighten the shift position switch bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
12. Remove the multimeter.
13. Install the shift position switch wire harness connector. Use a plastic tie strap if the connector clip is broken.
14. Install the range selector lever.
- Tighten the range selector lever nut to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
15. Install the shift position switch shield.
16. Lower the vehicle.
