OnStar(R) Vehicle Interface Unit (VIU) Replacement (UE1)
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Remove the rear compartment trim.
2. Remove the bay board fasteners (2).
3. Pull the bay board (1) away from the body and place the bay board (1) module side up in the rear compartment.
4. Remove the VCU/VIU (2) from the bay board (1) by releasing the tab and pulling the VCU/VIU (2) from the lower mounting on the bay board (1).
5. Disconnect the antenna and the electrical connections from the VCU/VIU assembly (2).
6. Slide the VCU (2) out of the mounting bracket/VIU assembly (1).
7. Remove the fasteners retaining the VCU mounting bracket (1) to the VIU (2).
8. Remove the mounting bracket (1) from the VIU (2)
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the VCU mounting bracket (1) to the VIU (2).
2. Install the fasteners in order to secure the mounting bracket (1) to the VIU (2).
3. Install the VCU (2) to the VIU and bracket assembly (1).
4. Connect the electrical and the coaxial antenna connections to the VIU/VCU assembly (2).
5. Install the VIU/VCU (2) to the bay board (1).
6. Push in on the top of the module assembly (2) until an audible click is heard, indicating the module (2) is securely fastened to the bay board (1).
7. Install the bay board (1) to the vehicle body.
8. Install the bay board fasteners (2).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners (2) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
9. Install the rear compartment trim.
