ALERT
Broadcasters may voluntarily choose to broadcast a special piece of RDS data called PTY-31. This is used in conjunction with the U.S. Emergency Alert System. This cannot be turned off and is used to notify the user of local or national emergencies. If an alert occurs the radio will display ALARM and the audio of the broadcaster will be heard, even if a cassette tape, or compact disc is playing. This will only be used during actual emergencies and not during tests of the emergency broadcast system. During tests of the system. TEST may be displayed in place of the normal PTY on the radio display. For a description of the RPO Code(s) shown in this image/article refer to the RPO Code List found at Vehicle/Application ID RPO Codes
