Front Door Hinge: Service and Repair



Front Side Door Hinge Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Open the front door.
2. Remove the closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair) or Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
3. Disconnect the door wire harness from the body wire harness.
4. Remove the door wire harness and conduit from the front body hinge pillar.




5. Remove the check link cover (2) at the pillar.




6. Remove the check link studs from the pillar.




7. Remove the intermediate hinge fasteners (1) from both hinges.
8. Lift the door to remove.




9. Mark the position of the hinge (2) on the pillar.
10. Remove the hinge fasteners (1) from the pillar.
11. Remove the hinge half from the pillar.
12. Mark the position of the hinge on the door.

Important: Be careful to secure the studplate when removing the hinge half from the door. The studplate is not attached and could fall into the door.


13. Remove the hinge fasteners from the door.
14. Remove the hinge half from the door.



Installation Procedure





1. Align the pillar half of the hinge (2) with the marks made on the pillar during removal.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the hinge-to-pillar fasteners (1).

Tighten the fasteners to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

3. Align the door half of the hinge with the marks made on the door during removal.
4. Install the hinge-to-door fasteners.

Tighten the fasteners to 34 N.m (24 lb ft).

5. Align the door hinge halves.
6. Lower the door so the hinge halves mate together.





Important: Use Loctite(R) Blue GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent prior to the installing the fasteners.


7. Install the intermediate door hinge fasteners (1).

Tighten the fasteners to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).





8. Position the check link arm to the pillar.
9. Install the check link studs to the pillar.

Tighten the check link studs to 9 N.m (80 lb in).





10. Install the check link cover (2) at the pillar.
11. Insert the door wire harness and conduit through the windshield pillar.
12. Pull outward slightly to fully seat the grommet.
13. Connect the door wire harness to the body wire harness.
14. Install the closeout/insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair) or Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
15. Adjust the door for proper alignment. Refer to Door Adjustment (Adjustments) .
16. Touch up any damage to the hinge, and the hinge fasteners with body color paint.
