Instrument Panel (IP) - Removal Procedure

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Service Precautions Caution in Service Precautions.




1. Disable SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove left sound insulator.
3. Remove the right sound insulator.
4. Remove the left knee bolster.
5. Remove the left knee bolster support.
6. Remove the right knee bolster.
7. Remove the IP center storage compartment or the floor console.
8. Remove the IP endcaps.
9. Remove the defroster grille.
10. Remove the IP upper trim pad.
11. Disconnect the body to IP electrical connectors (1) at the top, outside corners of IP.
12. Disconnect all other electrical connectors from the IP to body.




13. Disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering column.
14. Remove the steering column to body fasteners (1).
15. Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column. Refer to Shift Cable Replacement in Automatic Transaxle.
16. Disconnect the Steering column to body connectors.




17. Remove the IP center support bracket fasteners (1) to floor bracket.




18. Remove IP carrier (1) to cowl fasteners.




19. Remove the fasteners (1,2) from the left and right IP carrier to hinge pillar.




20. Remove the IP and carrier assembly from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the IP and carrier assembly to the vehicle.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




2. Install the fasteners (1) through the IP carrier to the hinge pillar.

Tighten
Tighten the IP carrier fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




3. Install the IP carrier to cowl fasteners (1).

Tighten
Tighten the IP carrier to cowl fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




4. Install the IP center support bracket fasteners (1) to floor bracket.

Tighten
Tighten the IP center support bracket fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




5. Install the steering column support fasteners (1).

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

6. Install the steering shaft to the steering column
7. Install the shift cable to the steering column.
8. Connect Steering column to body electrical connectors.




9. Connect the IP to body electrical connectors (1) at top outside corners of IP.
10. Install the IP upper trim pad.
11. Install the defroster grille.
12. Install the IP extension or the console.
13. Install the left and right IP endcaps.
14. Install the left knee bolster support bracket.
15. Install the left knee bolster.
16. Install the right knee bolster.
17. Install the left sound insulator.
18. Install the right sound insulator.
19. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
