Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair

CONDENSER REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging System




1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the upper filler panel.
3. Remove the hood latch support.
4. Remove the discharge hose fastener.
5. Remove the discharge hose from the condenser.




6. Remove the suction hose fastener (1).
7. Remove the suction hose (3) from the condenser




8. Remove the condenser mounting fastener.




9. Remove the left side of the condenser from the retainer.




10. Remove the right side of the condenser from the retainer.
11. Remove the condenser from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Electronic Halogen Leak Detector




1. Install the right side of the condenser into the retainer.




2. Install the left side of the condenser into the retainer.




3. Position the condenser in the vehicle.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the condenser mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the condenser mounting bolt to 13 N.m (10 lb ft).

IMPORTANT: Inspect the sealing washers for damage. Any sealing washers that show any signs of damage need to be replaced.

Sealing washers do not require lubrication.




5. Install the evaporator hose (3) to the condenser.

Tighten
Tighten the evaporator hose fastener (1) to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




6. Install the discharge hose to the condenser.

Tighten
Tighten the discharge hose to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

7. Install the hood latch bracket.
8. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
9. Leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing.
10. Install the upper filler panel.
