Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURETOOLS REQUIRED

NOTE: Refer to Nylon Fuel Line Notice in Service Precautions.
IMPORTANT: There is no service interval for in-line fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-line fuel filter if it is restricted.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure. Service and Repair
CAUTION: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Disconnect the fuel feed quick-connect fitting (5) at the inlet of the in-line fuel filter (4).
4. Disconnect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-line fuel filter.
5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
6. Inspect the lines for cuts, swelling, cracks, and distortion. Replace the lines as required.
7. Inspect the retainer (7), the fuel tank vapor hose (1), the EVAP hose (2), and the purge hose (3).
8. Inspect the fuel return pipe quick connect fitting (6).
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Remove the protective caps from the new in-line fuel filter.
2. Install the new plastic connector retainer in the same position as on the old in-line fuel filter.
3. Slide the in-line fuel filter into place.
4. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet (5) of the in-line fuel filter (4).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Connect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-line fuel filter.
Tighten
Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the in-line fuel filter from turning.
6. Reposition the EVAP pipe. (2)
Tighten
Tighten the in-line fuel filter outlet nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Tighten the fuel tank filler pipe cap (1).
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
10. Inspect for fuel leaks.
10.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
10.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
10.3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
10.4. Check for fuel leaks.
11. Install the rear seat cushion.
12. Install the intake manifold sight shield.
Tighten
Tighten the intake manifold nuts to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
