Engine Oil Life System

ENGINE OIL LIFE MONITOR
The Fluid Life Indexes are calculated by the PCM. The PCM uses many engine parameters to determine the percentage of fluid life remaining for the engine oil and transaxle fluid. The fluid life indexes are stored in the nonvolatile memory area of the PCM's EEPROM. When the PCM is disconnected from power these indexes will remain in memory.

The fluid life indexes can be reset using the following methods:
- Pushing the accelerator pedal to the floor three times within 5 seconds.
- Reset function on the Driver Information Center (DIC).
- Scan tool.

The DIC and accelerator methods will only reset the life indexes to 100 percent. The scan tool can reset engine life indexes in 10 percent increments.

The percentage of oil life remaining may be checked at any time by pressing the INFO button on the Driver Information Center (DIC) until ENGINE OIL LIFE is displayed on the DIC.

Note: Reset the system even if a situation occurs where you change your oil prior to the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message in the Driver Information Center (DIC) being turned on.

RESETTING PROCEDURE
1. Turn the ignition to ON but do not start the engine.

2. Press the INFO button on the Driver Information Center (DIC) until the ENGINE OIL LIFE parameter is displayed.

3. Press and hold the INFO RESET button on the DIC until the display reads 100% ENGINE OIL LIFE. The engine oil life index is now reset.

4. Turn the ignition OFF.
