Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
^ J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure Gauge
^ J 43013 Fuel Injector Removal Tool
^ J 37088-A Tool Set, Fuel Line Quick-Connect Separator

IMPORTANT: The fuel injector is serviced as a complete assembly only. If the fuel injectors are found to be leaking, the engine oil may be contaminated with fuel.




1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure. Service and Repair
2. Remove the fuel rail from the intake manifold.




3. Remove the fuel injector assembly.
4. Remove the fuel injector upper O-ring (3).
5. Remove the fuel injector lower O-ring (2).
6. Discard the injector O-ring seals.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





IMPORTANT: Each fuel injector is calibrated for a specific flow rate. Be sure to use the correct part number when ordering replacement fuel injectors.

The fuel injector assembly is stamped with a part number identification (2), a manufacturing date (3), a week code (1), and a production plant number (4).




1. Lubricate the new upper (3) and lower (2) O-rings with clean engine Oil.
2. Install the new upper and lower injector O-rings on the fuel injector.




3. Install the fuel injector (2) on to fuel rail.




4. Install the fuel rail assembly.
5. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
6. Install the negative battery cable.
7. Inspect for leaks.
7.1. Turn ignition ON for 2 seconds.
7.2. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
7.3. Turn the ignition ON.
7.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.




8. Install the intake manifold sight shield (1) to the engine.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

9. Install the intake manifold sight shield nuts (2).

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 3 N.m (27 lb in).

10. Install the rear seat cushion.
