Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing & Jacket - Assemble
Assembly ProcedureImportant: Use the alignment marks from the disassemble procedure. Failure to assemble properly will cause the steering wheel to be turned 180 degrees.
1. Apply lithium grease to the race and upper shaft assembly.
2. Align the marks on the race and upper shaft assembly with the lower shaft assembly.
3. Install the lower shaft assembly to the race and upper shaft assembly.
4. Install the steering shaft assembly (2) into the tilt head assembly (1).
5. Install the steering column tilt head assembly (1) and the steering shaft assembly (3) into the steering column support assembly (2).
Important: Replace the steering column support assembly if the steering column support assembly has been staked 3 times.
6. Lubricate the pivot pins with synthetic grease.
Install the 2 pivot pins onto the steering column support assembly.
Stake the pivot pins in 3 places.
7. If a dual triangle sensor assembly is present, do the following steps. If not, proceed to the next step.
Install the following parts to the steering column support assembly:
7.1. The retaining ring (5).
7.2. The dual triangle sensor assembly (4).
7.3. The sensor retainer (3).
7.4. The steering shaft seal (2).
7.5. the boot (1).
8. Install the following parts to the steering column support assembly:
8.1. The boot seal (5).
8.2. The retaining ring (4).
8.3. The sensor retainer (3).
8.4. The steering shaft seal (2).
8.5. The boot (1).
9. Install the linear shift assembly, the electrical BTSI actuator assembly and switch lever only. Refer to Linear Shift Assembly - Assemble -Off Vehicle (Power Tilt/Telescope-Column Shift) or Linear Shift Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Column Shift).
10. Install the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly only. Refer to Turn Signal and Multifunction Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Power Tilt/Telescope-Column Shift) or Turn Signal and Multifunction Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Power Tilt/Telescope, Floor Shift) or Turn Signal and Multifunction Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Floor Shift) or Turn Signal and Multifunction Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Column Shift).
11. Install the wire harness assembly only. Refer to Wire Harness Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Power Tilt/Telescope-Column Shift) or Wire Harness Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Power Tilt and Telescope, Floor Shift) or Wire Harness Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Floor Shift) or Wire Harness Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Column Shift).
12. Install the tilt spring only. Refer to Tilt Spring -Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Floor,Shift) or Tilt Spring - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Column Shift).
13. Install the lock module assembly. Refer to Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Power Tilt/Telescope-Column Shift) or Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Power Tilt and Telescope, Floor Shift) or Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble -Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Floor Shift) or Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Column Shift).
