SIR Steering Wheel Module Coil - Assemble

Assembly Procedure

Important: Improper alignment of the SIR coil assembly may damage the unit, causing an inflatable restraint malfunction.





1. Align the block tooth on the steering shaft assembly (1) to the 12 o'clock position.

Important: A new SIR coil assembly is pre-centered. Do not remove the centering tab from the new SIR coil assembly until the installation is complete.





2. If installing the existing SIR coil assembly it must be centered first. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Coil Centering - Off Vehicle (Column Shift And Floor Shift).
3. Align the SIR coil assembly (4) with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly (1).
4. Slide the SIR coil assembly (4) onto the steering shaft assembly (2).
5. Firmly seat the retaining ring (3) into the groove on the steering shaft assembly (2).
6. Remove and discard the centering tab from the new SIR coil assembly (4).
7. Connect the connector of the SIR coil assembly to the wire harness assembly.
8. Install the upper and lower shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Power Tilt/Telescope - Column Shift) or Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Power rift and Telescope, Floor Shift) or Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual rift, Floor Shift) or Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle (Manual Tilt, Column Shift).
