Removal Procedure

- Tools Required
- J42578 Steering Wheel Puller Legs
- J1859-A Steering Wheel Puller

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
2. Remove the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
3. Remove the nut.
4. Note the splines on the steering shaft and the steering wheel in order to ensure proper alignment during installation.





5. Use the J42578 and the J1859-A in order to remove the steering wheel.
6. Remove the J42578 and the J1859-A from the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure
1. Route the wiring through the steering wheel.
2. Align the splines on the steering wheel with the splines on the shaft.
3. Install the steering wheel.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





4. Install the nut.
Tighten the nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
