Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement (FE1, FE3)
Removal Procedure1. Raise vehicle on suitable hoist. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. Remove the rear suspension support assembly. Refer to Support Replacement (FE1, FE3) or Support Replacement (FE7).
4. Remove the electronic level control height sensor link from the control arm.
5. Disconnect the ABS electrical connector.
6. Remove the stabilizer link bolt.
7. Remove the hub and bearing, if necessary. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (FE1, FE3) or Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (FE7).
8. Remove the nuts and bolts securing the control arm to the rear suspension support assembly.
9. Remove the control arm.
Installation Procedure
Important: The control arm nuts should be tightened with the vehicle unsupported and resting on the wheels at the normal trim height.
1. Install the control arm to the rear suspension support assembly.
2. Install the hub and bearing if necessary. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (FE1, FE3) or Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (FE7).
3. Connect the ABS electrical connector.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install a new stabilizer link bolt and nut.
Tighten the new stabilizer link bolt nut to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the electronic level control height sensor link on left control arm.
6. Install the rear suspension support assembly. Refer to Support Replacement (FE1, FE3) or Support Replacement (FE7).
7. To obtain trim height, raise the control arm until the spindle face is parallel to the ground.
8. Tighten the control arm nuts.
Tighten the control arm nuts to 106 Nm (78 ft. lbs.).
9. Lower the vehicle.
