Coil Spring Replacement (FE7)

Removal Procedure

- Tools Required
- J24319-B Universal Steering Linkage Puller
- J44255 Coil Spring Compressor

1. Raise vehicle and support. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. Support the control arm with a suitable jack.





4. Remove the electronic level control air tube from the shock.
5. Remove the two bolts securing the shock to the control arm.





6. Remove the hex nut.
7. Using J24319-B separate the adjustment link (1) from the knuckle (2).





8. Install the J44255 and compress the coil spring.
9. Slowly lower the control arm until it bottoms on the support assembly.
10. Remove the coil spring.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the coil spring in the J44255.





2. Install the spring ensuring the insulator is seated in the control arm.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Raise the lower control arm and install the two shock bolts in the control arm.
Tighten the shock bolts to 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).





4. Install the adjustment link to the control arm.
Tighten adjustment link to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.), then tighten an additional 200 degrees.
5. Connect the electronic level control air tube to the shock.
6. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
Tighten wheel nuts to 125 Nm (80 ft. lbs.).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Check the toe and adjust if necessary. Refer to Rear Toe Adjustment (FE1, FE3) or Rear Toe Adjustment (FE7) in Alignment.
