Intermittent Digital Instrument Cluster Concerns
(Reprogram Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)

2000 Cadillac DeVille

Condition
Some customers may comment that one or more of the following conditions have occurred:
^ The Driver Information Display (DIC) is not operating properly. For example, the door open display is slow to respond.
^ The traction off/traction ready may not be synchronized with the traction switch inputs.
^ The information display resets itself.
^ The trip odometer will reset to zero.
^ The average fuel economy display may be incorrect.
^ The average vehicle speed may be incorrect.
^ The fuel range display may be incorrect.
^ The DIC display's memory is inoperative.
^ Phone not present message is displayed on the DIC when the phone is in place.
^ Blank DIC on vehicles built with phones.
The following conditions may be experienced by the service technician:
^ The IPC is setting DTCs U1162 and U1163 on chassis used for the build of hearse vehicles.
^ Unable to reprogram other modules in the vehicle using the Tech 2 scan tool.
^ DTC U1016 history code is set.
Cause
There may be a problem with the communication software within the IPC.
Correction
1. Connect the Tech 2 to the vehicle.
2. Remove the PCM battery fuse, # 8 fuse from the underhood fuse and relay center.
3. Using the Techline terminal, reprogram the IPC.
4. Disconnect the Techline terminal and Tech 2 from the vehicle.
5. Reinstall the PCM fuse # 8 in the underhood fuse and relay center.
