File In Section: 08 - Body and Accessories

Bulletin No.: 01-08-62-001

Date: February, 2001

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Insufficient Front Fascia and Grille Gap/Clearance When Closing Hood (Remove Foam Spacer)

Models:
2000-2001 Cadillac DeVille
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 1U213781

Condition

Some customers may comment that the gap/clearance between the front fascia and the radiator grille may not be sufficient to prevent damage to these components when closing the hood.

Important:
This condition may be noticed during New Vehicle Inspection.

Cause

The reduced gap/clearance may be due to the white foam insulator strip.

Vehicles built before the above listed breakpoint have a self-sticking white foam insulator strip attached to the underside of the front bumper fascia just forward of the four upper push-in retainers.

Correction

Remove the white foam insulator strip from the front fascia.

Important:
For customer satisfaction, prior to the delivery of a vehicle to a customer, check for the above condition and complete the following procedure:

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood.

2. Remove the four upper push-in retainers (1) that secure the front bumper fascia (2) to the front bumper impact bar.

3. Carefully lift up the fascia and remove the self-sticking white foam insulator strip (3).

4. Install the four upper push-in retainers (1) that secure the front bumper fascia (2) to the front bumper impact bar.

5. Close the hood.
