Secondary Camshaft Drive Chain Replacement
Removal Procedure1. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement.
2. Align the timing marks (1).
3. Remove the right secondary drive chain tensioner retaining bolts.
4. Remove the right secondary drive chain tensioner allowing it to expand as you remove it.
5. Remove the left secondary drive chain tensioner retaining bolts.
6. Remove the left secondary drive chain tensioner allowing it to expand as you remove it.
7. Remove the camshaft covers. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement (Left) or Camshaft Cover Replacement (Right).
8. Remove the camshaft position sensor. Refer to Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Replacement.
9. Remove the camshaft sprocket retaining bolts from all four camshafts. Use an open wrench on the hex cast near the front of each camshaft to prevent the engine from rotating when loosening the camshaft sprocket bolts.
10. Lift the right secondary drive chain from the sprocket teeth and slide the camshaft sprockets off of the camshafts.
Allow the right chain to fall into the front cover area.
11. Remove the right secondary drive chain from the engine block.
12. Lift the left secondary drive chain from the sprocket teeth and slide the camshaft sprockets off of the camshafts.
Allow the left chain to fall into the front cover area.
13. Remove the left secondary drive chain from the engine block.
Installation Procedure
1. For secondary drive chain installation. Refer to Setting Camshaft Timing.
2. Install the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement.
3. Install the camshaft position sensor. Refer to Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Replacement.
4. Install the camshaft covers. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement (Left) or Camshaft Cover Replacement (Right).
