Instrument Panel Assembly Removal

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
3. Remove the center console . Refer to Console Replacement (Service and Repair) .
4. Remove the steering column opening bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement (Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement - Driver) .
5. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Replacement) .
6. Remove the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right)
7. Remove the storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement (Instrument Panel Storage Compartment - Replacement) .
8. Remove the PSIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
9. Remove the instrument panel trim panels. Refer to both of the following procedures:

* Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side (Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Panel Replacement - Left)
* Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Panel Replacement - Right)

10. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
11. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
12. Remove the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement (Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement) in Body Front End.




13. Remove the right instrument panel to tie bar fastener (1).




14. Remove the instrument panel to tie bar fasteners (2).
15. Remove the lower instrument panel to bracket fasteners (1).
16. Remove the instrument panel to dash panel fastener (4).
17. Remove the instrument panel to dash panel fasteners (3).
18. Partially remove the instrument panel.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.
19. Remove the instrument panel with aid of a helper.



Installation Procedure


Important: Ensure that the shims at the bottom edge of the instrument panel are intact and fit properly.


1. Partially install the instrument panel.
Connect the electrical connectors.
2. Align the instrument panel to the mounting brackets.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the instrument panel fasteners (3).

Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

4. Install the instrument panel to dash panel fastener (4).

Tighten the fastener to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

5. Install the lower instrument panel to bracket fasteners (1).

Tighten the fasteners to 11 N.m (97 lb in).

6. Install the instrument panel to tie bar fasteners (2).

Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).





7. Install the right instrument panel to tie bar fastener (1).

Tighten the fastener to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

8. Install the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement (Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement) in Body Front End.
9. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
10. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
11. Install the instrument panel trim plates. Refer to both of the following procedures:

* Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side (Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Panel Replacement - Left)
* Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Panel Replacement - Right)

12. Install the PSIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
13. Install the instrument panel storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement (Instrument Panel Storage Compartment - Replacement) .
14. Install the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side (Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right)
15. Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Replacement) .
16. Install the steering column opening bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement (Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement - Driver) .
17. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (Service and Repair) .
18. Enable the SIR system. Refer toEnabling the SIR System in SIR.
19. Connect the negative battery cable.
