Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing & Jacket - Assemble

Assembly Procedure





1. Install the steering column housing support assembly (3) with the dimmer switch rod (2) connected.





2. Apply lithium grease to the exposed shaft engagement areas and then install the steering shaft assembly.





3. Install the steering shaft assembly.





4. Install the adapter and bearing assembly (1,\.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install 2 hex washer head tapping screws (2).
- Tighten the screws to 5.5 Nm (49 inch lbs.).





6. If no sensor present, install the bearing retainer (1).





7. Install the lower bearing seat (3).
8. Install the lower bearing spring (2).
9. Install the lower spring retainer (1).





10. Perform the following steps if the Hi Res sensor is present.
- Install the sensor adapter (1).
- Install the hi res steering wheel position sensor (2).
- Install the retainer sensor (3).
- Install the steering shaft seal (4).





11. If no sensor is present, install the steering shaft seal (1).





12. Install the seal retaining bushing (2).
13. Install the lower spring retainer (1).
14. Install the ignition switch assembly. Refer to Ignition Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
15. Install the steering column housing assembly. Refer to Steering Column Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle.
16. Install the hazard knob.
