Exterior Moulding / Trim: Service and Repair

Weld Stud Replacement

A repair procedure may damage a weld stud. Use the following procedure to replace the damaged weld stud.

Important: Apply the proper anti-corrosion materials as necessary.

Reinstall the weatherstrip adhesive in case of braking the weld stud from the inner door. The weatherstrip adhesive must be GM P/N 12345096 or the equivalent. Drilling the door for replacement of a weld stud causes damage of the outer surface of the door.

1. Drill a 3/32 hole into the same location as of the damaged weld stud.
2. Install the weld stud replacement screw into the drilled hole.
Use a weld stud replacement screw to retain the clips and the moldings in the same manner.
3. Repair and/or paint the surface to provide a smooth surface in case the surface becomes marred. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair () in Paint/Coatings.
