Evaporator Tube Extension Replacement

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Disconnect the compressor hose (1) quick connect fitting from the evaporator tube extension.
3. Disconnect the condenser tube (2) from the evaporator tube extension (3).




4. Remove the evaporator tube extension block fitting bolt.
5. Remove the evaporator tube extension.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the evaporator tube extension:
^ Use new O-rings.
^ Lubricate the new O-rings with mineral oil, 525 viscosity.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the evaporator tube extension block fitting bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




3. Connect the condenser tube (2) to the evaporator tube extension (3):
^ Use a new O-ring.
^ Lubricate the new O-ring with mineral oil, 525 viscosity.
4. Tighten the evaporator tube extension nut.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 44 N.m (33 lb ft).

5. Install the compressor hose (1) quick connect fitting to the evaporator tube extension.
6. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
7. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
