Evaporator Tube Replacement

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the evaporator tube extension block fitting bolt.




3. Remove the LF floor air outlet duct.




4. Remove the vacuum solenoid screws.
5. Disconnect the solenoid connectors.
6. Position the solenoids out of the way.




7. Remove the evaporator access panel screws.
8. Remove the evaporator access panel.




9. Remove the evaporator tube screw.
10. Remove the evaporator tube.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the evaporator tube:
^ Use new O-rings.
^ Lubricate the new O-rings with mineral oil, 525 viscosity.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the evaporator tube screw.

Tighten
Tighten the screw to 5 N.m (44 lb in).




3. Install the evaporator access panel.
4. Install the evaporator access panel screws.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).




5. Position the vacuum solenoids.
6. Install the vacuum solenoid screws.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).

7. Connect the actuator connectors.




8. Install the LF floor air outlet.




9. Install the evaporator tube extension block fitting bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

10. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
11. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
