Shift Solenoid Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

Manual Shaft Shift Position Switch Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Place the shift control lever in Neutral.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
4. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
5. Remove the transmission crossmember to body bolts.
6. Lower the transmission enough to provide access to the shift position switch.
7. Remove the shift position switch shield.





8. Remove the shift position switch wire harness connector (1) from the bracket (2).





9. Remove the transmission range selector shaft nut.
10. Remove the transmission range selector lever.





11. Remove the shift position switch bolts (1).
12. Remove the shift position switch (2).

Installation Procedure





1. Install the shift position switch (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Adjust the shift position switch.
^ Tighten the shift position switch bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
3. Install the shift position switch bolts (1).
4. Install the transmission range selector lever.





5. Install the transmission range selector shaft nut.





6. Install the shift position switch wire harness connector (1) to the bracket (2). Use a plastic tie strap if the connector clip is broken.
7. Install the shift position switch shield.
8. Raise the transmission into position.
9. Install the transmission crossmember to body bolts.
^ Tighten the transmission crossmember to body bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
10. Remove the transmission jack.
11. Install the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter bolts and nuts.
^ Tighten the exhaust muffler to catalytic converter bolts and nuts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
12. Lower the vehicle.
