Operational and Functional Checks

1. Check the driver seat. Turn the ignition switch to RUN. Check the proper operation of the seat belt chime and of the reminder lamp with the belt buckled. Check the proper operation of the seat belt chime and of the reminder lamp with the belt unbuckled. Refer to Seat Belt System Description and Operation.
2. Inspect the shoulder belt guide adjuster. Check the following:
^ The shoulder belt guide adjuster slides freely and locks when released.
^ The seat belt webbing seats flat.
^ The seat belt webbing does not bind.
3. Check that the seat belt buckle faces inboard and the seat belt buckle is accessible.
4. Check that the seat belt retractor units are securely attached.
5. Verify that the seat belt anchor bolts are secure.
6. Fully extend the seat belt webbing. Check for any unwanted twists or tears in the webbing.
7. Allow the seat belt webbing to retract. Check that the webbing returns freely and completely back in the retractor.
8. Snap the seat belt latch into the buckle.
9. Tug sharply on the seat belt latch. Buckle up. Check that it remains locked.
10. Push the button on the buckle. Verify that the seat belt latch easily releases from the buckle. Verify that the button returns to its original position.
11. Repeat steps 2-10 for the front passenger seat.
12. Inspect the rear center belts for any unwanted twists or tears in the webbing.
13. Snap the seat belt latch into the buckle.
14. Tug sharply on the seat belt latch. Buckle-up. Verify that it remains locked.
15. Push the button on the buckle. Verify that the seat belt latch easily releases from the buckle. Verify that the button returns to its original position.
Repeat steps 2-10 for the outer rear seat belts.
