Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle
Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
^ Air bag deployment
^ Personal injury
^ Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
^ Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
^ If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable file SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems
1. Disable the SIR system. Service and Repair
2. Remove the steering wheel.
3. Remove the tilt lever.
4. Remove the screw caps from the upper steering column cover.
5. Remove the screws from the upper steering column cover.
6. Remove the upper steering column cover.
7. Remove the screws from the lower steering column cover.
8. Remove the lower steering column cover.
9. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in Restraint Systems.
10. Remove the turn signal switch.
11. Remove the ignition switch set screw.
12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
13. Remove the lifting magnet from the ignition switch.
14. Insert a small flat-bladed tool into the ignition switch electrical connector hole in order to depress the locking tab.
15. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch.
16. Remove the ignition lock cylinder(3).
17. Disconnect the electrical connector from the theft deferent module (1).
18. Remove the theft deferent module (1) from the ignition lock cylinder housing(2).
19. Pull ignition switch toward the rear of the vehicle and slide to the left to remove the ignition switch from the ignition lock cylinder housing.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the ignition switch to the lock cylinder housing.
2. Install the theft deferent module (1) to the ignition lock cylinder housing(2).
3. Connect the electrical connector to the theft deferent module (1).
4. Install the ignition lock cylinder(3).
5. Connect the electrical connector to the ignition switch.
6. Install the ignition switch set screw until fully seated and not stripped.
7. Install the lifting magnet to the ignition switch.
8. Install the turn signal switch.
9. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in Restraint Systems.
10. Install the lower steering column cover.
11. Install the screws to the lower steering column cover.
12. Install the upper steering column cover.
13. Install the screws to the upper steering column cover.
14. Install the screw caps to the upper steering column cover.
15. Install the tilt lever.
16. Install the steering wheel.
17. Install the steering wheel inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
18. Enable the SIR system.
