57. Overdrive Unit/Fourth Clutch Assembly Installation

- J 36850 Transjel





1. Install the internal gear thrust washer (529). The tangs face downward and fit into the fourth clutch housing.
2. Preassemble the thrust bearing assembly (527) into the overdrive internal gear (528). The black side of the bearing faces the rear internal gear. Retain with J 36850 or equivalent.
3. Assemble the internal gear (528) onto the overdrive carrier (525). Hold the internal gear (528) in place.
4. Install the overdrive carrier assembly.





5. Install the fourth clutch plates (503, 502). Begin with a steel plate, then a composite plate, 2 steel plates, a composite plate and finally a steel plate. The short tang on the steel plate faces toward the control valve assembly surface.
6. Install the fourth clutch retainer (501). The notch faces upward and toward the control valve assembly surface.
