Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disable SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
2. Remove the IP center storage compartment or the floor console. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Base and DHS) (Instrument Panel Compartment - Replacement (Base and DHS))Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (DTS) (Instrument Panel Compartment - Replacement (DTS)) or Front Floor Console Replacement (DTS, w/o UV8) (Front Floor Console Replacement (DTS, w/o UV8))Front Floor Console Replacement (DTS, UV8) (Front Floor Console Replacement (DTS, UV8)) .
3. Remove the drivers knee bolster bracket. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement - Driver) .
4. Remove the passenger knee bolster. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement (Knee Bolster Replacement - Passenger) .
5. Remove the IP outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right) and Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair) .
6. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement (Without UV2) (Defroster Grille Replacement (Without RPO Code UV2))Defroster Grille Replacement (UV2) (Defroster Grille Replacement (With RPO Code UV2)) .
7. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair) .
8. Remove the heads up display, if equipped with UV2. Refer to Head Up Display Module Replacement. Head Up Display Module Replacement




9. Disconnect the body to IP electrical connectors (1) at the top, outside corners of IP.




10. Remove the steering column to body fasteners (1).
11. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.




12. For a DeVille base model, and the DeVille DHS, remove the range selector cable retainer from the range selector cable.




13. Remove the range selector cable from the ball stud.




14. Release the locking tabs (1) on the range selector cable
15. Remove the range selector cable (2) from the steering column.




16. If equipped with electronic tilt and telescoping steering wheel, disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the tilt and telescoping module to the main body harness.




17. Disconnect the steering column main harness connector (1).




18. Remove the IP center support bracket fasteners (1) to floor bracket.
19. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (2), located next to the IP center support.




20. Remove IP carrier (1) to cowl fasteners.




21. Remove the fasteners (1, 2) from the left and right IP carrier to hinge pillar.




22. Remove the IP and carrier assembly from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the IP and carrier assembly to the vehicle.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the fasteners (1) through the IP carrier to the hinge pillar.

Tighten the IP carrier fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





3. Install the IP carrier to cowl fasteners (1).

Tighten the IP carrier to cowl fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





4. Install the IP center support bracket fasteners (1) to floor bracket.

Tighten the IP center support bracket fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

5. Connect the wiring harness connector (2), located next to the IP center support.




6. Connect the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column Tilt.
7. Install the steering column support fasteners (1).

Tighten the fasteners to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





8. If equipped with electronic tilt and telescoping steering wheel, connect the tilt and telescoping module electrical connector (1).




9. Connect the steering column harness electrical connector (1).




10. For a DeVille base model, and the DeVille DHS, Install the range selector cable to the steering column.
11. Install the range selector cable to the ball stud.




12. Install the range selector cable retainer




13. Connect the IP to body electrical connectors (1) at top outside corners of IP.
14. Install the heads up display, if equipped with UV2. Refer to Head Up Display Module Replacement. Head Up Display Module Replacement
15. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement. Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement - Upper
16. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement (Without UV2) (Defroster Grille Replacement (Without RPO Code UV2))Defroster Grille Replacement (UV2) (Defroster Grille Replacement (With RPO Code UV2)) .
17. Install the drivers knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement - Driver) .
18. Install the passenger knee bolster. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement (Knee Bolster Replacement - Passenger) .
19. Install the IP extension or the console. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Base and DHS) Instrument Panel Compartment - Replacement (Base and DHS) or Front Floor Console Replacement (DTS, w/o UV8) Front Floor Console Replacement (DTS, UV8) (Front Floor Console Replacement (DTS, UV8)) .
20. Install the left and right IP outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side (Instrument Panel (IP) - Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right) and Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair) .
21. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
