Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.





3. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector.
4. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.
5. Install J 42578 and J 1859-A to the steering wheel.
6. Using J 42578 and J 1859-A remove the steering wheel.
7. Remove the J 42578 and the J 1859-A from the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure





1. Route the wiring through the steering wheel.
2. Align the splines on the steering wheel with the splines on the shaft.
3. Install the steering wheel to the steering column upper shaft.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the steering wheel retaining nut.
- Tighten the steering wheel retaining nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
5. Connect the steering wheel electrical connector.
6. Install the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
