Brake Switch (Cruise Control): Service and Repair

BRAKE RELEASE SWITCH REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Remove the driver side insulator panel.
2. Disconnect the upper switch electrical connector.
3. Twist the upper brake release switch (5) counter-clockwise. Remove the brake release switch.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Proper stoplamp switch adjustment is essential. Improper stoplamp switch adjustment could cause brake drag and excessive brake lining wear.

IMPORTANT: When the brake pedal switches are installed, the brake pedal must remain in the full up or at rest position, or damage to the brake system and/or switch misadjustment can occur.

1. Connect the upper brake release switch (5) electrical connector.
2. Install the upper brake release switch (5) into the upper retainer (6). Install the brake release switch connector in the 6 o'clock position.

IMPORTANT: The brake release switch assembly and the stoplamp switch assembly must not be adjusted until after the brake booster pushrod is assembled to the brake pedal assembly. Incorrect adjustment can cause the cruise control system to malfunction.

3. Adjust the brake release switch. Refer to Brake Release Switch Adjustment.
4. Install the driver side insulator panel.
