Rear Bumper: Service and Repair



Rear Bumper Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the side marker lamp sockets (4).
3. Remove the rear wheelhouse extensions. Refer to Wheelhouse Extension Replacement - Rear () in Exterior Trim.
4. Lower the exhaust system in order to access the four impact bar bolts.




5. Remove the 4 bolts (2) that retains the impact bar to the energy absorbers.
6. Slide rearward the bumper fascia in order to disengage the brackets from the guides.




7. Remove the plastic retainers that retain the fascia (3) to the impact bar (1).
8. Remove the impact bar from the fascia (3).
9. Remove the 3 plastic rivets on each side that retain the fascia side moldings.
10. Release the snap tabs and remove the moldings.
11. Remove the 2 plastic rivets that retain the center molding.
12. Release the plastic snap tabs from the inside of the fascia in order to remove the fascia center molding.
13. Remove the side marker lamps and the rear reflectors.
14. Remove the side brackets (1).




15. Remove the heat shields (3).


Installation Procedure




1. Install the heat shields (3).
2. Install the side marker lamps and the rear reflectors.
3. Install the snap tabs that retain the fascia center molding.
4. Install the side brackets (1).
5. Install new side bracket retainers.
6. Install the 2 plastic rivets that retain the center molding.
7. Install the snap tabs that retain the side moldings to the fascia.
8. Install the 3 plastic rivets on each side in order to retain the fascia side moldings.




9. Install the impact bar (1) to the fascia (3).
10. Install new plastic retainers (2) in order to secure the impact bar (1) to the fascia (3).




11. With the aid from an assistant, install the bumper (3) to the vehicle.
12. Engage the fascia brackets to the guides (1) in order to secure the fascia sides.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

13. Install the 4 energy absorber bolts (2).

Tighten the bolts to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

14. Install the rear wheelhouse extensions. Refer to Wheelhouse Extension Replacement - Rear () in Exterior Trim.
15. Install the side marker lamp sockets (4) and rotate 45 degrees in order to secure.
16. Adjust the bumper, as needed. Refer to Rear Bumper Adjustment (Adjustments).
17. Reposition the exhaust system.
18. Lower the vehicle.
