Steering Wheel Replacement

- J1859-03 Steering Wheel Puller

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
3. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.





4. Install J1859-03 to the steering wheel.
5. Using J1859-03 remove the steering wheel from the upper steering shaft.
6. Remove J1859-03 from the steering wheel,

Installation Procedure
1. Feed the coil assembly lead through the slot in the steering wheel.





2. Install the steering wheel (1) to the upper steering column shaft.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the steering wheel retaining nut.
- Tighten the steering wheel retaining nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
5. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
