Models:
2001 Cadillac Eldorado
Built Between VIN Breakpoints 1B106393 and 1B107471
Condition
Some customers may comment on one or more of the following conditions:
^ Intermittent MIL/Service Engine Soon indicator illuminated
^ Engine will not start
^ Various electrical system failures
^ Various driveability concerns
^ Blown fuses
Cause
These conditions may be caused from the engine wiring harness that connects to the underhood fuse/relay center chaffing against the transmission housing. This contact may cause a rub through to the wires enclosed in that harness, resulting in the above conditions. Damage to the harness may also result in several stored diagnostic trouble codes.
Correction
Repair any damaged wires and reroute harness to a new location. Use the procedure listed below.
1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the Engine Controls sub-section of the Service Manual for removal procedure.
2. Disconnect the hose (1) from the secondary AIR injection check valve.
3. Position AIR hose so that it runs on the back side of the engine wiring harness. The engine wiring harness (2) should now be located in the fork of the AIR Y-pipe.
4. Connect the hose to the secondary AIR injection check valve. Install the hose protector, P/N 22664960, to the AIR hose at the location where the hose contacts the transmission. Position split in the hose protector to face the opposite of the transmission.
5. Repair any damaged wires. Refer to Wiring Repairs in the Wiring Systems sub-section of the Service Manual.
6. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the Engine Controls sub-section of the Service Manual for installation procedure.
