General Waterleak Diagnosis Guide

Condition
The front floor carpet is wet. This condition may be more prevalent on the right side of the vehicle.
Cause
Water may be entering through a void in the urethane between the windshield and the body at the arrow in the illustration above.
Correction
Verify the leak path using compressed air and soapy water. If a leak is present, refer to the Stationary Glass sub-section in the Body and Accessories section of the Service Manual for glass removal.
Condition
The carpet is wet at the front of the dash by the tunnel. Refer to the arrow in the illustration above. The moisture will be more prevalent on the right side of the vehicle.
Cause
Water may be entering through the air inlet duct.
Correction
With the glove box removed, tighten the two bolts as shown in the illustration above.
Condition
The trunk is wet. Refer to the arrow in the illustration above.
Water test in the area shown in the illustration above.
Cause
Water may be entering through the tail lamp pocket flange. Refer to the shaded area in the illustration above.
Correction
Clean the area to be sealed and seal with a seam sealer listed in the Parts Information section.
Condition
The trunk is wet Refer to the arrow in the illustration above.
Water test in area shown in the illustration above.
Cause
Water may be entering through the back panel.
Correction
Clean the area to be sealed and seal with a seam sealer listed in the Parts Information section. Refer to the shaded area in the illustration above.
Condition
The trunk is wet. Refer to the arrow in the illustration above.
Cause
Water may be entering through the seal carrier. Refer to the illustration above.
Correction
Clean the weatherstrip carrier and seal with the weatherstrip sealer listed in the Parts Information section.
Condition
The trunk is wet. Refer to the arrow in the illustration above.
Cause
Water may be entering over the top of the rear compartment lid seal. Water test in the area shown above.
Correction
1. Move the rear compartment lid forward and adjust the height as necessary.
2. If the leak still exists, replace the seal with a new weatherstrip without a lip on the bulb portion of the seal. Refer to the arrow in the illustration above.
Condition
Water drips on the rear wheel house and ends up in the spare tire carrier. Refer to the arrows in the illustration above.
Water test in the area shown in the illustration above.
Cause
Water may be entering through the sealing patch. Refer to the area shown in the illustration above.
Correction
Clean the area to be sealed and seal with a seam sealer listed in the Parts Information section.
Condition
The trunk is wet (dirty water).
Cause
A body seam may not be sealed near the rear bumper absorber.
Correction
Seal the shaded area as shown in the illustration above.
