Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SM Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.





2. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module (SIR). Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
3. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.
4. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector.





5. Install J 1859-A and J 42578 to the steering wheel.
6. Using J 1859-A and J 42578 separate the steering wheel from steering shaft.
7. Remove the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the steering wheel.
2. Align the steering wheel with the mark on the steering shaft.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install steering wheel retaining nut.
Tighten the steering wheel nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
4. Connect the steering wheel electrical connector.
5. Install the SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
