Wiper Arm: Service and Repair

WIPER ARM REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Set the wiper arms in the park position.
2. Disconnect the wiper nozzle hose from the washer hose connector.
3. Remove the cover from the nut.
4. Remove the nut from the wiper arm.

IMPORTANT: Use a battery terminal puller to remove the wiper arm if rocking the wiper arm fails to loosen it from the drive shaft.

5. Rock the wiper arm back and forth to loosen it from the drive shaft.
6. Remove the wiper arm from the drive shaft.
7. Remove the wiper blade from the wiper arm.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the wiper blade on the wiper arm.

IMPORTANT: The wiper system must be in the park position when installing the wiper arms. If the wiper system is not in the park position, damage to the wiper system and the vehicle will occur.

2. Park the wipers if they are at the mid-wipe position.

IMPORTANT: Clean the wiper transmission drive shaft knurls with a wire brush.

3. Install the wiper arm on the wiper transmission drive shaft while maintaining the following distances between the end of the wiper blade and the bottom of the windshield:
^ Passenger Side - 46 mm (1.8 in)
^ Driver Side - 67 mm (2.6 in)

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




4. Install the nut on the wiper arm.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

5. Install the cover onto the nut.

IMPORTANT: Lubricate the washer hose with the windshield washer solvent to ease installation on the washer nozzle.

6. Connect the wiper hose to the washer nozzle connector.
7. Operate the wiper and the washers and inspect for proper operation.
