Steering Column Trim Covers

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.





3. Remove the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws (2).
4. Remove the lower steering column trim cover (1) from the steering column close-out shroud.





5. Remove the wiring harness tie straps (2) from the steering column wiring harness.





6. Disconnect the tilt and telescope module electrical connectors (2).





7. Open the lower wiring harness shield and remove the steering column wiring harness.
Note the direction the steering column wiring harness is routed in the lower steering column wiring harness shield for re-installation.





8. Remove the tilt and telescope switch from the lower steering column trim cover.
9. Remove the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw.





10. Remove the upper steering column trim cover (1) and close-out shroud from the steering column.
11. Remove the steering column close-out shroud from the her steering column trim cover.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the steering column close-out shroud to the upper steering column trim cover.





2. Install the user steering column trim cover (1) and close-out shroud to the steering column.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw (2).
Tighten the upper steering column trim cover retaining screw to 1.5 Nm (l3 inch lbs.).





4. Install the tilt and telescope switch (2) to the lower steering column trim cover.





5. Install the steering column wiring harness (2) to the lower wiring harness shield.





6. Connect the tilt and telescope module electrical connectors (2).





7. Install the wiring harness tie straps (2) to the steering column wiring harness.





8. Install the lower steering column trim cover (1) to the steering column close-out shroud and upper steering column trim cover.
Ensure that the tabs (2) on the lower steering column trim cover engage with the tabs on the upper steering column trim cover then snap them together.
9. Install the lower steering column trim cover (2) retaining screws.
Tighten the lower steering column trim cover retaining screws to 3.5 Nm (31 inch lbs.).
10. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.
11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
