Linear Shift Assembly - Assemble -Off Vehicle

^ Tools Required
- J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Install the linear shift assembly and secure using 3 flat head 6 lobed socket tap screws.
^ Tighten the screws to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





2. The lock cylinder should be in the OFF or LOCK position.

Important: The locking tab at the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) must be secure in the lock module assembly.

3. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1).





4. Adjust the park lock cable assembly.
4.1. Use the gear shift lever to put the column in the park position.
4.2. Put the ignition switch in the OFF or LOCK position. Remove the key.
4.3. Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.
4.4. Pull on the cable until the park lock latch contacts the gear shift lever. Release the cable.
4.5. Lock the adjuster ring securely in place on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.
5. Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
5.1. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF or LOCK position. The gear shift lever should not be able to shift out of the park position.
5.2. Turn the key to the run position and put the gear shift lever in the neutral position.
5.3. With the gear shift lever in the neutral position the lock cylinder should not be able to go into the OFF or LOCK position.
5.4. Put the gear shift lever in the park position.
5.5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF or LOCK position and then remove the key.

Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Coil Caution in Service Precautions.

6. Install the automatic transmission shift lock control assembly only.
7. Install the shift lever.
8. Install the steering column into the vehicle.
9. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column.
10. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
